This lightweight contemporary barkcloth is called “Mary,” from the Outback Wife collection by Gertrude Made. I love the way this fabric blends a nostalgia with a sweet modern twist, and Made’s use of green and blue colors is wonderfully playful. Sadly, it’s out of print, so I was delighted to pick it up from 5 Little Monkeys Quilting in Weaverville, NC.The strikingly patterned poplin lining, “Moon Owl,” comes from deep in my archive of Charley Harper designs for Birch Fabrics. Alas, this design is also discontinued, but don’t despair. I still have yardage left in my stash to use in a future bag or two! I have a soft spot in my heart for dragonflies, and found this piping fabric a wonderful partner for this pair of fabrics.
